Marine Superintendent

GENERAL INFORMATION
Purpose of the Role

To ensure the safe operation and security of the ships to which he has been assigned and to provide a link between the Company at the most senior level and those on board to monitor the safety and pollution prevention aspects of the operation and to ensure that adequate resources and shore based support are applied as required.

It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure Health and Safety is adhered to at all times. All new starters receive Health and Safety training as part of their induction.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Responsible for certification / ISPS implementation / SOPEP implementation
  • Responsible for incident prevention & investigation including handling of P&I insurance matters
  • Responsible for all internal / external audits
  • Responsible for crewing OPEX a/c
  • Responsible for crew appraisals
  • Responsible for briefing of senior officers
  • Responsible for SMS familiarisation on board
  • Responsible for Emergency Response
  • Responsible for Safety Meeting & Management Review on board
  • Responsible for implementation of Policies & Procedures as per company SMS
  • Assist Technical Superintendent
  • Adhoc Projects as assigned by Fleet Manager or Fleet director
  • Monitor Charts & Publications
  • Coordination with charterers
  • Responsible for sharing CP details & ensuring implementation of charter requirements as per CP on board vessel as required

Education & Knowledge
  • In depth understanding of the industry and knowledge of key stakeholders.
  • Satisfy the appropriate requirements as set out in MSC-MEPC.7/Circ.6 re the guidance and qualifications, training and experience necessary for those undertaking the role of DPA.
  • Satisfactorily completed an approved DPA and CSO Course.
  • Relevant industry or related industry qualification.
 
Working Experience
  • Sailing Experience Master for at least 2 years.
  • Shore Experience in HSEQ Role for at least 1 year.
  • Previous track record of successful business leadership.

  • Successful influencing skills with the ability to positively challenge to make changes.
  • Able to multi-task, including performing administrative duties.
